Case Studies: Three notable examples of success

Community Food Initiatives

Why have we picked the Community Food Aid Initiatives? Well, it’s not just because, as a program, it has made a big impact – but also because the model is really neat.

The CFI program addresses food insecurity by providing nutritious meals and food education to low-income families. The success of CFI can be attributed to its holistic approach—combining immediate food relief with education on healthy eating and budgeting. By addressing both the symptoms and root causes of food insecurity, CFI has significantly improved the well-being of participating families.

The CFI is successful not just because of what is does, but how it has done it. To date, 44 community initiatives have received funding and are part of a programme of support and shared learning.

Community Food Aid – Sheffield

In Sheffield, volunteers of the Community Food Aid—Sheffield are making a great effort. They are a non-profit organisation committed to building a food support system in Sheffield to help those in need.

Feeding Families

A similar effort is carried out by Feeding Families in Newcastle, which distributes food to places that need it, such as community groups, food banks, domestic abuse charities, and more. The charity started by Juliet Sanders has grown from an idea to a major force for good which benefits so many people every day.

Juliet says “Practice daily acts of kindness. Donate a tin of food, give a pound, give your time to a cause. Don’t think that small acts are insignificant. Start something (anything), and it will become a revolution!”

If you have success, you, your group, charity or organisation would like to share – we would love to hear from you!

Top 3 Ingredients in the recipe for success:

Address a pressing need

Identifying, demonstrating and addressing a clear need is something all good causes should be able to do. It is the reason for being.

Innovate

Doing what has always been done simply because that is how it has always been done, ‘Doth butter no parsnips!’. Innovation is crucial.

Innovation means trying something new that has not been tried in this context.

Lots of innovation is inspired from elsewhere.

So, look around and see what works elsewhere and innovate to make that approach fit for the purpose where you are.

Leverage local partnerships

You might feel very alone, trying to do what you are doing, but with a little imagination, it becomes easier to find others willing to help take your efforts to the next level!
